"GLACIER WORLD"

more more

A selection of the works which were shown in the 17th Annual Exhibition in Dietikon
20 August - 1 October 2011

Under the title "GLACIER WORLD" we focussed on a theme which is not only gaining in public awareness because of global climate change but also presents a signicant challenge to the artist. Even if the glaciers around Dietikon itself have long since disappeared, the rapid melting of the ice in the High Alps is plainly evident and gives us every reason to examine the diverse aspects of the fascinating world of glaciers... while we still can!

Vernissage

The exhibition was officially opened by the Mayor of Dietikon, Mr. Otto Müller, on Saturday afternoon, 20 August at 5 pm. The musical background was provided by Rolf Nyffeler (saxophone) and André Kunz (guitar). After the opening ceremony an apero was served and guests had an opportunity to view the exhibition and meet with the artists.

Theme Lecture

A highlight of the exhibition was the illustrated lecture by the glaciologist Dr. Samuel Nussbaumer of the World Glacier Monitoring Service, University of Zürich, which was held on Thursday 1st September. Under the title "Art and Science in the Glacier World" he gave a fascinating insight into the role of old paintings as documentary evidence for the extent of the glaciers in years gone by.
