|
The 16th exhibition was held in 2009 from the end of May to the middle of June in the Curling Hall of the Grindelwald Sports Centre.
From over 200 works entered, 135 paintings by 51 artists from all parts of Switzerland were selected by the jury for the exhibition.
We were delighted to welcome three new members from the eight candidates who submitted their works for consideration.

After the AGM in the Hotel Central Wolter opposite the Sports Centre the members made their way to the Curling Hall, together with their friends and invited guests for the opening of the exhibition at 5 pm.
The red carpet was rolled out, alphorn music set the tone, and the assembled throng of around 200 artists, guests and local dignitaries were welcomed by the President of the Guild, Peter Marti.
In his opening speech Mäni Schläppi, the Mayor of Grindelwald, expressed his admiration for the variety and quality of the works on display, among them several by members he has known personally for many years.
In particular he praised the contribution of the artists to our awareness of the beauty, and also the fragility of our natural surroundings, especially at the present time of climate change and environmental pressures.
Finally, the results of the competition "Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau" were announced by Toni Baumann, Director of Grindelwald Tourist Office, and prizes were awarded to the winners (see below).
With aperitifs to follow, the guests mingled informally and examined the works on display, until the event came to a close toward 8 o'clock in the evening.

As almost nowhere else in the world, artists through the ages have documented the changing times in pictures and poems, songs and myths, inspired by the scenery and perspectives of Grindelwald.
The advance and retreat of the glaciers has been unmistakeably portrayed ...
Nature is indeed so rich and diverse, as is reflected in the variety of works exhibited here.
The Guild of Swiss Mountain Painters, founded in Grindelwald, can profoundly influence our awareness of the inestimable value of our mountains, glaciers and the alpine environment.
Let us take good care of it!
From the Introductory Greeting by the Mayor of Grindelwald Mäni Schläppi

In contrast to last year's exhibition venue in Saanen, with its broad alpine landscapes, here in Grindelwald we are surrounded by magnificent peaks of rock and ice; Wetterhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau to name but a few...
It therefore comes as no surprise that the trilogy of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, part of the World Heritage area Jungfrau - Aletsch - Bietschhorn, was chosen as the main theme for this year's exhibition.
It is a pleasure to see the great variety of styles and techniques used by our members in portraying this most aesthetically proportioned mountain group...
From the Preface by the Guild President Peter Marti

The competition: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau
The members were invited to each bring one new "Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau" painting for the exhibition, which was judged by an independent jury and the results were announced during the opening ceremony.
Congratulations to the winners!:
