Together they painted the Eiger!

To stimulate interest in the creative process of mountain painting, an art-happening was organised for visitors to the Eiger-Live Mountain Festival in June 2010. Two large wooden panels, each with an outline sketch of the Eiger and consisting of many numbered segments, were put up at the entrance to the Grindelwald Sports centre. Interested passers-by were invited to draw lots for a section of the painting, which they were then free to paint in whatever colour and style they chose.

Over 70 people joined in, young and old, tourists from many different countries including Japan, India, Portugal, Russia, France and England. Above all, families with children, who were curious to see what was going on. One boy started painting his allotted section but had to stop because it was time for his swimming lesson. So his sister continued, using exactly the same colours as he had. Then she wanted to do a section of her own, and finally her eldest brother joined in too. So all three contributed to the final painting. In the meantime their mother went shopping ...

Below you can see what they created, all together.

The project was initiated by Madlen Fähndrich Campiche and organised in collaboration with the Eiger-Live committee. Several Guild members helped with setting up the equipment and materials and with guidance for the participants îf required.
